Sounds a bit ridiculous, right? These imaginary creatures have now caught the interest of kids and adults alike for generations. In order to stay relevant, the creators of Pok\u00e9mon are always looking for new and exciting ways to keep you engaged with their world. Through this need to create inspiring games for people to play, and to keep Pok\u00e9mon a lovable household name, Pok\u00e9 Lids were born.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-are-poke-lids\">What Are Pok\u00e9 Lids?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.ap-northeast-1.wasabisys.com\/joyn\/2026\/03\/13160336\/what-pokemon-manhole-cover-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"-\" class=\"wp-image-19161\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Many Japanese cities have decorated their manhole covers all around the city as a kind of revitalization project. While most of these covers are not Pok\u00e9mon-related, many covers around Japan actually depict Pok\u00e9mon. These unique pieces of art can be found in various cities all over the country, and have been affectionately named Pok\u00e9 Lids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some Pok\u00e9mon enthusiasts travel all over Japan to snap a picture of each unique Pok\u00e9 Lid and collect them like they\u2019re playing Pok\u00e9mon GO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"where-to-find-poke-lids\">Where to Find Pok\u00e9 Lids<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"582\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.ap-northeast-1.wasabisys.com\/joyn\/2026\/03\/13160423\/Screenshot-2026-03-13-at-16.04.00-1024x582.png\" alt=\"-\" class=\"wp-image-19165\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">\u6d88\u606f\u6765\u6e90 <a href=\"https:\/\/local.pokemon.jp\/en\/manhole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pokemon lids<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Unlike many things in Japan, these Pok\u00e9 Lids aren\u2019t only found in Tokyo. They can be found in every major region of Japan and even in some pretty obscure places. You can find a complete list of where to see each one on the <a href=\"https:\/\/local.pokemon.jp\/en\/manhole\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pok\u00e9 Lids website<\/a>. It\u2019s kind of nice to see an attraction unique to Japan that isn\u2019t only centered around Tokyo, that you can participate in wherever you are in the country.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"tokyo-kanagawa\">Tokyo &amp; Kanagawa<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/s3.ap-northeast-1.wasabisys.com\/joyn\/2026\/03\/13160341\/pokemon-manhole-covers-in-tokyo-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"-\" class=\"wp-image-19162\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you are going to be in Tokyo, here are some of the most accessible Pok\u00e9 Lids to check out:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u4e0a\u91ce<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pok\u00e9 Lids closest to central Tokyo are in <a href=\"https:\/\/joyn.tokyo\/zh\/life-guide\/tokyo\/ueno-guide\">\u4e0a\u91ce<\/a>, a neighborhood famous for its sprawling park, zoo, and for cheap tasty restaurants and izakayas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tyrunt &amp; Wynaut<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first Pok\u00e9 Lid in Ueno shows both Tyrunt and Wynaut (Pok\u00e9 Lids usually show at least two Pok\u00e9mon) and can be found in Ueno Park, near the entrance to the National Museum of Nature and Science. So, you can go to the museum and learn about real creatures, before stopping by the Pok\u00e9 Lid and snapping a picture of some imaginary ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Baltoy &amp; Bronzor<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second Pok\u00e9 Lid can also be found in Ueno Park, closer to the center of the park, near a couple of lovely man-made ponds, as well as the Tokyo National Museum, the oldest and largest art museum in Japan. If you\u2019re a beginner when it comes to your knowledge of Pok\u00e9mon, maybe you can start here, and then branch out to snapping pictures of some of the lesser-known ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Poliwag<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first Pok\u00e9 Lid in Machida features Poliwag, a cute water type Pok\u00e9mon loosely based on a tadpole. This Pok\u00e9 Lid can also be found in a park, like many of them are. The park is called Serigaya Park, and along with a vast green space, it also features various unique sculptures throughout, and play equipment for kids such as zip lines and Tarzan rope swings. If your kids are into Pok\u00e9mon, this is a great place to bring them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Pidgey &amp; Rattata<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Pok\u00e9 Lid is also in Serigaya Park (all of the Machida Pok\u00e9 Lids are, actually) and features two Pok\u00e9mon, Pidgey, a bird-like Pok\u00e9mon, and Rattata, a Pok\u00e9mon based on a mouse. These two animal-like Pok\u00e9mon can be found next to a well-known sculpture that\u2019s also a fountain, affectionately named \u201cSeesaw\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oddish, Weedle &amp; Caterpie<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Pok\u00e9 Lid features three different Pok\u00e9mon, Oddish, a plant-inspired grass type Pok\u00e9mon, and Weedle and Caterpie, two Pok\u00e9mon loosely based on caterpillars. It\u2019s interesting that some Pok\u00e9mon are based on animals, some on plants, and some on bugs, so if you want to see some non-animal Pok\u00e9mon, you should definitely check out this Pok\u00e9 Lid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Squirtle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Pok\u00e9 Lid shows one of the most well-known Pok\u00e9mon: Squirtle. He is a water type Pok\u00e9mon based on a turtle, who is one of the original \u201cstarter Pok\u00e9mon\u201d, meaning he\u2019s one of the Pok\u00e9mon that you can choose at the beginning of a Pok\u00e9mon game. Fittingly, the Squirtle Pok\u00e9 Lid can be found near a big water fountain sculpture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Charmander<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Pok\u00e9 Lid features Charmander, another starter Pok\u00e9mon based on either a dinosaur or a lizard. He is a fire type Pok\u00e9mon, with an eternal flame burning at the tip of his tail, which grows or diminishes based on his power level. The Charmander Pok\u00e9 Lid can be found at the north end of Serigaya park, next to a walking path a short distance from a lovely flower garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bulbasaur<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last Pok\u00e9 Lid that you can find in Machida\u2019s Serigaya Park is one depicting Bulbasaur, another starter Pok\u00e9mon that is a grass type. He\u2019s not exactly based on any specific animal; he\u2019s kind of half animal, half plant. If you want to snap a photo of this classic Pok\u00e9mon, you can find him on the north side of the park, next to a walking path not far from another garden with many flowering trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pok\u00e9Park Kanto<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Pok\u00e9Park Kanto is located in Inagi, another neighborhood on the outskirts of Tokyo. Here you can find a Pok\u00e9 Lid showing Pikachu and Eevee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pikachu &amp; Eevee<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This Pok\u00e9 Lid is located right outside of the Pok\u00e9mon Center at Pok\u00e9Park Kanto, so this is a prime location to shop for your favorite Pok\u00e9-merch, and the take a photo of the park\u2019s singular Pok\u00e9 Lid, featuring Pikachu, the most well-known Pok\u00e9mon of all time, and Eevee, another classic Pok\u00e9mon sort-of based on a fox, but also showing elements of a cat, dog, and rabbit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u6a2a\u6ee8<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ll be in Yokohama, there are five Pok\u00e9 Lids for you to search out and find. All of them show Pikachu, along with another classic Pok\u00e9mon such as Psyduck or Raichu. They are all located in the same area near Yokohama\u2019s pier, some inside parks, such as the Pikachu, Psyduck, and Machop Pok\u00e9 Lid inside Nippon Maru Memorial Park, and some right next to parks, such as the Pikachu, Victini, and Munchlax Pok\u00e9 Lid very close to Rinko Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yokohama Pok\u00e9 Lids are a good day trip because they\u2019re all located in the same general area, and you can enjoy many parks, as well as a view of the ocean, while searching for each one. Many of the city\u2019s Pok\u00e9 Lids are located in or near Hanazono Central Park, a sizable park that includes a lake and a few sports stadiums. I thought I\u2019d include some of them here just for fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Zamami<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Zamami is known as one of the most beautiful and nature rich islands in the Okinawa island chain. It also happens to have its own Pok\u00e9 Lid, which really shows that the Pok\u00e9 Lid project is committed to making art pieces not only in major metropolitan tourist hubs, but also in more rural locations known for their beauty.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zamami\u2019s Pok\u00e9 Lid is located near the ferry terminal, and features Growlithe, a fire type Pok\u00e9mon reminiscent of both a tiger and a dog, and Wailmer, a water type Pok\u00e9mon that looks like a blue whale without a tail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ogasawara<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ogasawara islands, one of the most remote locations in Japan, happen to have four Pok\u00e9 Lids of their own. All four are located near the Chichijima ferry terminal. They feature classic Pok\u00e9mon such as Mew and Charizard, and all happen to show only one Pok\u00e9mon each, which is rare for a Pok\u00e9 Lid. These Pok\u00e9 Lids are a great incentive for enthusiasts to visit the Ogasawara islands, if you can handle the 24-hour ferry ride.
